Tambulig National High School, Tambulig,  Zambo. del Sur was hailed one of the five  finalists  among the 17 regions nationwide on the Search for Outstanding Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) Implementers for SY 2017-2018.   
The school, prior to its national endorsement had been a consistent winner in the regional and national level. It can be noted that in SY2015-2016, said school lodged 3rd  place and SY2017-2018 ranked 2nd place both in the national level, yet it never ceased to improve and to bring their efforts to the next level. The impact of their best practices are replicated to the rest of the schools in the region.  
Dr. Isabelita M. Borres, DepEd regional director is hoping that finally this year, Zamboanga Peninsula’s entry will make it to the number one spot.  
The validation team are expected to conduct ocular visits and on-site validation on March 13-14, 2019—composed of varied personalities from DepEd: Maria Corazon C. Dumlao, Girlie G. Azurin, Ferdinand Nunez and Dangerous Drugs Board(DDB): Teresita C. Pineda and Edna A. Villavicencio. 
To date, there has been a total of 344 organized BKD Chapters nationwide with a total  membership of  90,994. 
Awards and prizes will be given away for the five national winners—1st Prize, P50,000 plus plaque; 2nd Prize, P40,000 plus plaque; 3rd prize, P30,000 plus plaque; two consolation prizes at P10,000 each plus plaque. In addition, Hall of Fame Award shall be given to a school that has been awarded 1st  Prize at least three times. 
Said competition aimed to strengthen the National Drug Education Program(NDEP) by increasing awareness and understanding among students, faculty and school administrators in initiating active response toward a drug-free school, home, workplace, and community.  
Further, the contest also looked into the functionality of BKD programs, projects, and activities in schools and its impact to the community. It also include the process of documentation, exposure to mass media, integration of BKD concepts in classroom instruction, interventions, capability building, and other creative measures. 
BKD is a collective action among students and youth in the community that strengthens camaraderie, collaboration, cooperation, solidarity and linkages in the commitment to attain a drug-free lifestyle. 
The search is in  consonance with Board Res. No. 5, s. 2007 issued by DDB and  DepEd Memo No. 127, s. 2018.
