ZPRAA Badminton, Day 3. Consistent high level training and participation to different tournaments paid off for Jennifer Ondol and Brix Gutierrez as they clinched gold in secondary girls and boys thereby adding their respective coaches to the roster of Palaro 2024 qualifiers.
Ondol faced off with teammate Angel Uriel Zamora in a friendly encounter for the gold in which their coach was already assured of a palaro spot while Gutierrez cruised in the second game and downed Jasper Jessie Manlangit of Pagadian after a crushing opener which ended in his favor, 25-23.
Dapitan’s Zeid Paul Mohametano, a grade six learner who showed silent domination over all his opponents since the early rounds of the tournament, captured the lone gold medal for his delegation by blasting Dipolog’s James Roger Nazario with an easy 2-0 win and made sure he never lost a set in route to his milestone win.
Leila Ronace Madroñal, playing for her home city of Pagadian denied Dapitan their second gold by defeating Khenya Ivorie Zamora, younger sister of Angel Uriel of Dipolog, in straight games.
As the tournament came to an end through the closing and awarding ceremonies lead by no less than ZPRAA secretary general Sheila Rose Apiag, the conversation shifted back to training as it was made known that team Dipolog had already literally booked tickets to Malaysia for a 30-day training regimen of at least four of their players.
